I maintain this book list for use of my readers, customers, attendants of my courses, and everybody else who is interested. The list does not aim to be complete in any way; it  contains titles that I personally find worth reading. The order in which titles are listed does not imply any judgement of the books; instead the ordering is by topic from essentials of common interest to titles devoted to more esoteric, special-interest issues.

Note:  I do not sell these books!  Please, do not send me orders. Contact your favorite book store for any purchases you want to make.

EJB - Enterprise Java Beans

REVIEW Mastering Enterprise Java Beans, 2nd Ed.
Ed Roman, Scott W. Ambler, Tyler Jewell, Floyd Marinescu
John Wiley & Sons, December 2001
ISBN: 0471417114
An excellent introduction to EJB with several appendices providing introductions into related topics such as JNDI, RMI, XML, etc.
EJB Design Patterns
Floyd Marinescu
John Wiley & Sons, February  2002
ISBN: 0471417114
A wonderful companion to an introductory EJB book which covers best practice programming tips.
REVIEW Enterprise JavaBeans, 3rd Ed.
Richard Monson-Haefel
O'Reilly, October 2001
ISBN: 0596002262
Another excellent introduction to EJB.  A little more thorough than Ed Roman's book and with a stronger focus on EJB alone; it does not have any of the appendices that "Mastering EJB" has on related topics.
WebSphere 4.0 AEs Workbook for Enterprise JavaBeans, 3rd Ed.
Kyle Brown
O'Reilly & Associates, September 2002
ISBN: 0596004184
cover WebLogic Server 6.1 Workbook for Enterprise JavaBeans, 3rd Ed.
Greg Nyberg
O'Reilly & Associates, September 2002
ISBN: 0596004176
The companion workbooks for Monson-Haefel's book on EJB.
Book Cover Effective Enterprise Java
Ted Neward
Addison Wesley, August 2004
ISBN: 0-321-13000-6
The book cover says: " look at the good, the bad and the ugly aspects of J2EE development" and that pretty much describes it.  It's excellent companion reading to any of the EJB books mentioned above, although it is not restricted to EJB. It discusses J2EE more from an architectural point of view.

JDO - Java Data Objects

cover Java Data Objects
Robin M. Roos
Bk&CD-Rom, October 2002

Moderately recommendable.  It does not provide much information beyond the JDO specification.

Sameer Tyagi, Michael Vorburger, Keiron McCannon, Heiko Bobzin
Prentice Hall PTR / Sun Microsystems Press, July 2003
ISBN: 0-13-140731-7
cover Java Data Objects
David Jordan, Craig Russell
O'Reilly, May 2003
ISBN: 0596002769
